Hiking holidays in Ramsau am Dachstein
Waldrand Apartment & Hotel overlooks the imposing Dachstein mountain range. These mountains are home to the Hoher Dachstein peak, which at 2,995 metres (9,826 feet) above sea level is the highest mountain in the Upper Austria – Styria region. The Dachstein acts as a natural border between these two Austrian states.
The Dachstein is an extremely popular destination with hikers and climbers, but it requires alpine experience and, in some cases, climbing skills are needed too. There are three popular climbing routes to the summit, all of which have varying degrees of difficulty. Climbing activities in Dachstein can be combined with the Dachstein Super Ferrata, although this climbing / via ferrata combo requires a fit physical condition and some experience.
Ramsau am Dachstein also offers a variety of easier trails for hikers and families. The Dachstein-Alm region is dotted with beautiful green meadows. Here you can stroll among more than 20 alpine valleys and enjoy fantastic views over the unique landscape of this scenic area. Hikers have at their disposal more than 200 kilometres (124 miles) of signposted hiking trails, so you can enjoy your favourite outdoor activity without having to worry about finding the right path. The little hikers in the family will love the dedicated children’s trails in Ramsau am Dachstein, which are perfect for bringing them closer to nature.
In September, Ramsau hosts the traditional Almatrieb, a colourful event where cattle are brought down from the pastures into town. This is a must-see during your hiking holiday in Ramsau am Dachstein.
